We can start by electing more women to the Maryland State Senate, where only 11 of 47 senators are women. My campaign has focused on enacting paid family leave in Maryland. Issues around childbearing and childcare are a leading reason that women leave the workforce, which then has a ripple effect on their salary and career achievements. Toward that end, as your State Senator, Jennifer will take the following actions:
- Develop a paid family leave program, removing one of the barriers to women remaining in the workplace after having children.
- Submit legislation to require blind recruitment practices in Maryland, which remove identifying information from job applications, and reduce overt or implicit discrimination in hiring.
- Support legislation that bans requiring applicants to disclose their salary history at any point during the hiring process.
