Health care is a human right.

The ability to pay for healthcare should never be an impediment to receiving it. As a scientist with experience working in cancer and infectious disease, I understand the burden illness can place on families.  As the only state to operate an all-payer rate setting system, Maryland is uniquely positioned to lead the nation in single-payer, “Medicare for all” style health care. Single-payer health care reduces the administrative burden on health care, reducing costs and simplifying health care for patients. It disassociates health care from employment, so no one is left without care after losing a job, or is forced to choose between taking a career leap and keeping their health insurance. Perhaps most importantly, single-payer health care promotes equality, providing all citizens of Maryland with equal access to health care.
